| It’s the type of terrain that causes skiers and riders to weep openly. Alpental. Called by many the most beautiful and most challenging terrain in the state and by others just plain sick, a freerider's paradise. Plus it snows buckets, well over 400 inches a year, creating powder that causes more of that open weeping. Speaking of which, only black and double black diamond runs are available off of Edelweiss Chair. | ![]() |
And let's not forget about the backcountry, all 500 plus acres of it, accessible from Edelweiss Chair - or Chair 2 as locals prefer. By the way, it is mandated by the snow gods that a backcountry card be obtained from the Ski Patrol Shack atop Chair 2 before hitting the back forty. There is no cost for the backcountry card.
Need to prove yourself on Alpental? Check out when it's open.
If you already have your own gear and don't want to carry it to and from your car on every visit to The Summit or Alpental, then check out our Season Locker Rentals! Download the application here.

| *Backcountry Terrain The backcountry is outside the designated ski area boundary and the terrain is rugged, steep and avalanche prone at all times. For backcountry registration and current conditions, contact the Ski Patrol at the top of Edelweiss Chair lift. Beware, Alpental is a Class "A" avalanche area and avalanche beacons, probes, shovels and knowledge of the backcountry terrain are STRONGLY recommended. |
