Racing For Everyone!

No matter what your age or ability level, you can be involved in racing leagues here at The Summit! Here are a few of the options offered:

1. Buddy Werner Race Team

Through the lifetime sport of skiing, our experienced coaches will focus on developing skiing skills, racing tactics and personal character. This high-energy team is a great way to experience ski racing and hone skills for intermediate/advanced skiers looking for an all-mountain experience beyond the traditional programs. Buddy Werner Race Team is for kids who are eager to ski hard, run gates, and are confident skiing all but the most challenging terrain at The Summit. Both racers and parents will learn what it takes to compete as we develop skills and technique. Your child will improve their skills through directed free-skiing and focused race drills with opportunities to compete in races at The Summit and other ski areas. Three races are planned, see below for details.

• Ages: 8-13
• Location: Alpental/Summit Central
• Day(s): 27 total; weekends and mid-week nights
• Duration: 10-week program
• Dates: Saturdays and Sundays January 2nd/3rd through March 6th/7th; Thursdays January 7th-February 11th
• Times: Saturdays 9:30am-2:45pm, Sundays 9:30am-11:30pm (with afternoon adventures/free time), Thursdays 6pm-8pm (Family Gate Night)
• Afternoons on Sundays are designed to be free for other activities at home or (hopefully) on the mountain. Availability to snowshoe, snowboard, and Nordic rental equipment is planned.

Three race days are planned, one in each January, February and March. Some racers may participate in the end of season Buddy Werner Championship races. All races are for intermediate to advanced skiers, levels 6-9.

2. The Summit's Masters Racing and Training - Adults

• Prepare for the PNSA Masters race series while improving your all around skiing and racing skills in this 8 week program


• Headed up by seven-time Masters World Champion Knut Olberg and his experienced crew


• Perfect for advanced/expert skiers looking for a challenge and to improve their technical and tactical racing skills


• Choose from coaching sessions and/or non-coached "gate bash" sessions


• Pick the days that work for you! Tuesdays, Wednesdays and/or Thursdays at Alpental from 7-9pm


• Starts January 5th, 2010

3. CityLeague Racing - Adults

• CityLeague team ski racing for all abilities


• Adult midweek night racing


• Seven week series


• Dual side by side format


• All abilities and disciplines


• Tuesday through Friday nights at Alpental; Wednesday and Thursday nights at Summit West


• 7:30pm-9:30pm


• $700 per team (up to 12 people, 6 race per night, individuals placed)
