2019 Alpental Freeride Open
Our fifth annual IFSA Junior Freeride regional competition at Alpental was a hit thanks to heaps of support form mountain staff, parents and volunteers! With an expanded two-day format, over 120 athletes were able to compete in this year's event. Competitors ages 12-18 lucked out with great weather on Saturday, then on Sunday the clouds swooped in, delaying the start and shortening the venue for U12 athletes. However, a little bit of cloud cover can't deter these dedicated skiers and snowboarders! The competition on Sunday was young, but super strong!
It's safe to say that the future of freeride in the Pacific Northwest looks very bright. It was incredible to see so many talented and passionate skiers and snowboarders competing and loving every bit of it!
New Venue
Typically the Alpental Freeride Open is held under the Edelweiss Chair, down Rollen and over The Fan. However, this year the usual venue was not able to support the competition due to a week of warm sunny weather. Thankfully Adrenaline and Lower International proved to be a really great alternative with exrtremely steep challenging terrain, fun tree islands, and a host of playful features for skiers and boarders to prove their prowess.
