Snow Reporter's Comments

March 18, 2019: It's looking like another fantastic "Spring like" day, up here at The Summit at Snoqualmie. Today we will have Summit Central as the only base area providing your downhill fun - open 9am-5pm. The weather experts are calling for sunny skies with the freezing level way up there at 9,500'. The temps did drop overnight at pass level, so at the opening bell you will find the groomers to be firm under foot and frozen granular snow, on the off-piste terrain. However, as soon as the morning sunshine puts focus on the slopes of Summit Central, that hero snow will soon make an appearance. Yesterday (3/17), I found the snow to become loose granular during the 10am hour, so if you're running a little late this morning, your timing will be perfect. The Grooming Team let me know all standard trails were groomed last night, along with corduroy to be carved up on two black diamonds, Silver Nugget and Hog Wild. Temps are to rise today into the mid 40s and possibly the low 50s, so bring that sunblock and you may also find yourselves wanting to shed the standard coat/beanie/goggles for the hoodie or shell/ball cap and shades (as I did yesterday). If you forgot your sunscreen, like I did yesterday, be sure to stop into one of our shops at the base area of Central or Silver Fir.

A couple of competitions are going down this upcoming weekend. First, the Alpental Freeride Open will be showcasing the under 12 freeski and Snowboard athletes on Saturday (3/23). Sunday (3/24), it will be the big kids turn ( 12-18 years old ) to test their big mountain skills beneath the Edelweiss Chair, on legendary terrain where all the folks riding the chair lift, will get a fantastic view of the venue. Now for the second comp, it'll be happening down at Summit East on Sunday (3/24), The Serpentine Massacre, an event I've only missed once, as a spectator. To sum up The Serpentine Massacre, quickly, this is a race of 5 person heats, down the snake like trail named "Serpentine". All of the heats lead up to a last chance qualifier (which is very wild and fast), then at high noon the final race happens. This exciting one of a kind event, that will be showcasing some of the best snowskaters on the planet (in my view), will be followed up with live music in the Broken Tip Bar at Summit East's base area. Can't wait for the corn snow today and all of the good times to follow this week! Drive safely and see you the snow. –T.N.T.

Spring Pass: Speaking of spring conditions, our Spring Fling Pass is on sale until Sunday (3/24). Get unlimited access from now until the end of the season for $149. We all know how great our spring season is!
