New Internationale Chair at Alpental

Two years in the making, the new Internationale Chair at Alpental is scheduled to open for the 2024-25 season. The long-awaited chair will be a Doppelmayr fixed-grip triple and provide direct access to some of Alpental’s best expert terrain – Knoll Zero, Snake Dance, Felson, Lower Internationale, and the legendary Alpental Back Bowls. With 1,345 feet of vertical, the new lift also gives skiers and riders the biggest descent on the mountain.

In addition to providing quicker access to amazing fall-line laps in this unique terrain, the new Internationale Chair increases Alpental's total uphill capacity by 25% and helps relieve the bottleneck on Edelweiss (Chair 2). That translates to shorter lift lines and more time on the snow.

The recently upgraded and realigned Sessel Chair (installed in 2023) provides easy access to Internationale as well, working together to provide a whole new way to ride Alpental.

New Internationale Chair Overview of the new lift and alignment
  • Wondering why you previously saw the new lift as “International” and now see it as “Internationale”?

Alpental’s founders, Bob Mickelson & Jim Griffin, originally named the famous run and the future lift “Internationale” in following with the Tyrolean/European themes found across the mountain. We aren’t quite sure when, but many decades ago the ‘e’ fell off and we’ve been using “International” ever since. However, now is the time to rectify that, recognize Alpental’s history, and give a nod to the founders – it’s what they would want... we know because they asked us many years ago.

The original spelling can still be found on old maps and development plans. Along with the lift, the trail name will be fixed this year as well.

Wondering how to pronounce the original spelling? The most common for English speakers is in-tuh-nash-uh-NAHL. But we won’t mind if you still call it ‘Nash or pronounce it with the old spelling.
